The Therapeutic Power of Sound

The Therapeutic Power of Sound

Sound and music has been a part of my life since I can first remember myself. I was in my school’s choir and somehow always found myself around a piano, like a cat hovering in the kitchen. Music was my food. I studied music and classical singing and always loved to sing. However, it wasn’t until a later age that I realized why singing had always been so vital to me.

On a hot summer solstice day, I had a life-changing experience in front of an open piano that was playing a circle of fifths. There, while I was intuitively following the sounds of the piano and toning to them, I felt a certain wave, very much like an electrical current moving inside my body. Something deep in my soul had awakened and my whole body felt lifted and surrounded by light. I was so moved, I went into tears of joy. I think the only thing that can be compared to this sensation to an extent was the birth of my son, though the latter was a spiritual experience of a much higher caliber. That was it once again. I realized why I have been singing all my life.

I had discovered the healing power of sound and vibration first hand on myself. After this profound awakening, I knew that the power of sound as medicine and a catalyst for inner transformation was something to be shared and communicated to the world around me. I was to use my own resonant frequency, my own voice with intention to serve and create change for the community.

Sound creates an overall flow of energy in the body that affects us at all possible levels: physical, mental, emotional & spiritual.

Physical

On a physical level, sound creates an overall sense of well being and a more balanced flow in different systems of our bodies in particular our nervous, digestive, endocrine and respiratory systems, which are often taxed from daily external stimuli and stress. Moreover, sound can be very effective in releasing pain. Our pain receptors can only handle so much information, which means that when they are exposed to sound they will no longer transmit pain impulses.

Mental

On a mental level, there has been extensive clinical research, which proves that when we are exposed to frequencies within the range of a brainwave (beta, alpha, theta and delta) our brain will be entrained into that frequency within a few minutes. In other words sound frequency cannot be resisted on a mental level, and is a very effective way to let go and release all that does not serve. Brainwave entrainment helps address a variety of issues such as ADD, ADHD, stress and anxiety, and sleep disorders etc.

Emotional

It is long known how powerful music has been through the centuries in transforming our emotional states. The key to emotional balance is to allow our emotions to flow and express them very much like we did when we were infants. A sound bathing space is a safe space to express our emotions with sound and restore flow back into our system finding more peace and joy.

Spiritual

Sound and music were crucial since ancient times across different cultures to alter consciousness and facilitate healing and awakening. Sound can harmonize the vibrational frequencies of our body’s subtle energy field, and chakras and restore our whole system back into flow. This process can help clear stagnant negative energies, emotions and belief patterns from our energy field, and lead as to a space where we can connect to Spirit and Source resonating the love and light that we are
